The IFFF visited the
Dominican Republic for the second time this year to finalize
preparations for the 5th Annual World Cup of Flag
Football that takes place in February 2004. The event is gradually
coming closer and has been welcomed by senior dignitaries in
Puerto Plata. Governor Ginette Bournigal de Jimenez of the
Providence of Puerto Plata has already promised to invite the
President of the Dominican Republic to bless the event and is
extremely excited at the prospects of hosting the biggest flag
football gathering in the world. They are relishing at the
opportunity to host a sporting event that runs alongside there
carnival structured Independence Day celebrations which of course
will create a great atmosphere for the players and the people of
Puerto Plata. The entire sporting extravaganza will be surrounded
by colorful parades, dancing and partying of which we intend to
encourage being part of our event.
The IFFF staff took
the opportunity to give the players a sight of some of the beautiful
and historic monuments and locations positioned around the island of
Puerto Plata. The Dominican Republic is known as the first island
Christopher Columbus landed on, therefore has a historic value to it
and attracts tourist from around the globe. |
