WORLD CUP 2004

"THE WORLD CUP AWARD BANQUET IS ALWAYS A CRUCIAL PART OF THE EVENT AS THE ATHLETES AND TEAMS THAT WORKED HARD, SHOWING THEIR TALENT AS INDIVIDUALS AND AS A GROUP ARE REWARDED AND RECOGNIZED BY ALL THE PLAYERS AND ESPECIALLY THE IFFF".

Jim Zimolka (President IFFF/FlagMag)

The following list of players were recognized for their individual skill and talent and teamwork, they played extremely well and also played a pivotal role as good ambassadors to the sport. Here are the MVP's for the 5th World Cup of flag football:

World Cup Men

Offensive MVP - Ricky Andrade (Canada) scored the lion share of TD's for his national team, an extremely quiet individual that played exceptionally well as a running back and receiver, overall good guy.

Defensive MVP - This year we have two defensive MVP's in Adam Descantis (USA) and Mike Dingsdale (Canada). These two guys are now veterans of the game with years of experience playing in the event, calm but aggressive ball players that know how to hold their teams together. I get a buzz watching them play as they play hard but fair, two great guys that we should thank for being part of our event.

World Cup Women

It has become amazing how the women are playing great football and are definitely catching up with the men in terms of skill, athletism and technicalities of the game. The following ladies are very good MVP's and we think showed they are the best in the business.

Offensive MVP - Maria Miranda (USA) a fast exciting QB that could throw the ball and then run when need be, looked like she was packed with experience but never seemed to panic...great job to be the first USA QB to hold up that trophy (history).

Defensive MVP - Jackie Dore (Canada) Well she is one of the reasons why to a certain extent we think what men can do women can make it perfect. Always around the ball of D, very quick and athletic with knowledge of the game. Has been to many of our events and a core part of the women's game in Canada, she is well respected by us and many more...keep up the hard work and it will pay off.
