World Cup Preview
USA, Canada, Cayman Islands, St Croix, Honduras, Mexico and
England are all ready and set to play in the World Cup
champions. Canada are the favourites, USA arrive with veterans
Lance Batan, James Mayo, Jimmy Wilson, Brian Goodhart & Adam
Descantis, England are looking good and so are the Cayman Island
and St Croix, Honduras make first appearance while Mexico are
back after a year out. Clearly the most competitive part of the
World Cup in the 9man contact, most people will vision a
USA/Canada final but I could see Mexico making a statement after
a year away and the Cayman definitely reaching the last four. St
Croix and England are in the best position as underdogs and
could be the surprise package.
The women's section welcomes Mexico back the most talented
female group around, USA and Canada would like to see the match
up at last years final. Panama are here for the first time while
Venezuela should show last years form and maybe reach the final.
Canada claim they can defend title on US soil.
The World Cup champions Canada are here confident
that they will defend their title against any competition they
come across. Last year the Canadians beat a favourite USA to win
their first ever World Cup championship. This year they feel
they can repeat the same quest and I wouldn’t disagree with
that. The Canadians look good this year with a solid combination
of players from all over the country inclusive of a new group
from British Columbia. With the likes of Ricky Andrade (MVP
2004), Glen Cooper the WR that broke USA’s heart with the
winning TD both returning Team Canada have the effective tools
to go all the way and win again. On the other hand, the
Canadians should not feel too confident because I can assure you
they will have Cayman Islands, USA and Mexico whom beat them in
the Bahamas semi-finals match-up all breathing down their necks.
Anything could happen at the World Cup, that’s why its special,
last year it was all about the Canadians and this year we should
expect no different, there will be upsets we just don’t know
where its going to come from. Canada are still the team to watch
and beat, USA should respect that fact and know they have to
play extremely well if they are going to get a sniff at that
trophy.
