BOSTON RECAP

The last World Cup Regional Qualifier came to a close this past weekend in Boston - as the biggest tournament took place in Bean-town.  Forty-three teams competed for the last chance to play at the World Cup Invitational Tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, FL slated for Feb.  Teams traveled in from VT, ME, NH, MA, VA, RI, MD, NY, and six teams came in from Canada - to make this northeast regional a success.  Teams enjoyed the unusually warm weather and great competition. The talent was evenly dispersed, as there were six different divisions of competition. Four of the six crowned champions came from the losers bracket and four championships came down to the final play.

In the 8Man Gold Division, the Generals (Boston) had the ball on the one-yard line and failed to score giving the Red Dawgs the win 25-19. In 8Man Silver, the Cardinals had the ball on the 5-yard line and failed to score losing to Fed Ex 13-7. In the 8Man Bronze division, on the last play of the game, the Shamrocks threw a 30-yard TD pass to defeat Wash Tap 13-12.

In Womens 4Man, the Black Widows held off the Geants 8-0. In the 4Man Gold, Universal Mortgage revenged an earlier loss to the Tree Frogs by thumping them 36-6 in the championship game.  And in 4Man Silver, the Dream Team also avenged an earlier loss to Total Excitement by defeating them 26-6.   The Regional Qualifiers tour concluded with great games and incredible sportsmanship.

Jill Camuso from Black Widows was named to the women’s TEAM USA squad.   Men named for TEAM USA were:  Al Meninno – Generals, Adam DeSanctis – Generals, Dave Yoder – Generals, Arty Hazzard – Irish/Wallboard, John Wiggin – Damiens, Steve Wiggin – Damiens, Bob Hayden – BNSC, and Billy Madden – Obelix.   In addition, several athletes were named to the TEAM USA Selection Pool – listed on the FLAGMAG.COM website.
