TEAM USA
IN EUROPEAN TOUR RECAP
Team USA completes Tour
of Europe!!!
Team USA played in Switzerland,
Italy, then France to complete its exhibition tour of Europe. Team
USA Men and Women played each country's current style of play and
then introduced the World Cup 9on9 contact style. Each Country improved
greatly from each clinic.
Switzerland was given
a clinic on Monday and then the following day. Over 200 players
played Tuesday. The event made the papers and Local TV giving Switzerland
a great deal of exposure for Flag Football.
In Italy Team USA was
greeted warmly, as several Italian players where at the Hotel waiting
for Team USA's arrival. At the field, Team USA played Italy at their
game of 5on5 contact. After two games of 5man, the 9Man ineligible
World Cup Rules were played. The Italians played remarkable well.
A good running game and an aggressive D-line will make this country
a strong competitor. The night ended with an Italian dinner at a
wine distillery - a remarkable ending as the Italians picked up
the entire tab.
In France, Team USA endured
a 12-hour bus ride to Normandy Beach. In Normandy, over 70 teams
participated in a 5 on 5 no contact tournament. Teams from England,
France, Germany, USA, Israel, and Mexico were in attendance at this
event. Twenty teams competed in the A div, where the the USA Women
and Mexican Women were forced to play against men due to the lack
of women's teams. Team USA women only won one game but the Mexican
women went 4-0 on Saturday. On Sunday, the Mexican women suffered
an embarrassing loss to the USA Men 35-7. Mexico then lost to the
Indians of Austria 20-18 on the last play of the game to be eliminated.
Yona and Steve of Israel teamed up with a French team and played
some games, while Team USA defeated the Purolators of France in
the semis 24-6. In the championship game Team USA defeated the Knights,
an American team from Ramstein Air Force Base, 34-18 in front of
400 cheering fans. After the game, Team USA was mobbed with t-shirt
exchanging and photos. Team USA then proceeded to play the French
in 9on9, where over 50 players anxiously awaited to play. Remarkably,
the French were well prepared and will be one of the teams to beat
in this year's World Cup.
Joe Adamson of Napa Valley, CA was named TEAM USA's MVP for the
European Tour. Team USA's next stop is July 13 - 14 in Montreal,
Canada.
A special thanks to all our new Flag Football friends, your hospitality
was incredible, We look forward to reciprocating your good will
at the World Cup.
